Udupi: Five well-equipped modern bus stands will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 50 crore in Udupi, said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment and District in-charge Minister.
He was speaking after laying the foundation for the K.S.R.T.C. (NURM) bus stand near the City Bus stand here on Sunday, September 10. The bus stand being built at a cost of Rs four crore is expected to be ready within one year. As many as 10 KSRTC buses can be parked at this stand at a time. Car parking facility and nine commercial shops will be made available here.
Madhwaraj said that one of the five proposed well-equipped KSRTC bus stand will be established at Bannanje in Udupi. Meanwhile, city bus stands will constructed in Manipal, Udupi and Malpe at a cost of Rs 10cr.
Gopala Poojary, Byndoor MLA and President of KSRTC Authority said that tender will be called within three days for the Udupi bus stand. In the district 87 bus routes and 63 bus permits are yet to be received. A total of 44 KSRTC buses are running on the routes. Around 1800 new buses have been purchased by the KSRTC Authority and with this, fleet of 1000 old buses will be replaced. He said that 11 Volvo buses will be made available on Mangaluru-Udupi route.
He said that a sum of Rs 10cr has been earmarked for Byndoor bus depot and Karkala depot will be developed based on availability of land. If the two depots are developed then Udupi can have a separate KSRTC division.
