Udupi: The students of Poornaprajna Degree College here sat on a dharna against college management’s decision to suspend an Economics lecturer of the institute.

Poornaprajna students protest against lecturer's suspension-1Students participated in the protest in large numbers and boycotted their classes on Friday, February 17, after they reportedly heard of the suspension order issued by Sri Vishwapriya Theertha of Admar Matt.

The professor in question Durgaprasad Maiya, an economics lecturer for B Com students, has been suspended following allegations of leakage of internal examination question papers.

The college top management explained to the students that the intention of the college was their betterment and they were looking into an unjustifiable act on the lecturer’s part wherein he gave the same marks to 38 students who gave different answers for a question.

Interacting with the students Dr. G S Chandrashekar, Secretary of the Poornaprajna College which is managed by Admar Education Council said that the college which was working only with their good intent had been running very smoothly without any disturbances thus far.

Dr. Chandrashekar wanted the lecturer to obtain proof about the claim that the he had been suspended and advised the students against resorting to agitation based on some rumours.

Meanwhile police has been deployed at the college campus.
