Udupi: Keeping forth a demand for ‘written constitution’ for the Ashta Mutts of Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, former junior swamiji of Pejawar Mutt Vishwavijaya has filed a case at the Civil Court here on Monday against Ashta Mutt including Pejawar Mutt.Stating that lot of differences have been brewing between the Ashta Mutts over the last few years and that these difference had come out in open during the biennial Paryaya Festival, Vishwavijaya argued that these incidents of non-cooperation amounted to ‘disrespect’ to the principle laid down by Madhwacharya, the exponent of Dwaitha principles.

He endorsed the feeling that a ‘written constitution’, talking about traditions, rituals and conduct of the seers was required to maintain harmony among the Ashta Mutts which were founded by Madhwacharya 800-years-ago.

Citing an example of how he had to abdicate his seat when he crossed oversea in 1987 (Sagarolangana or crossing the sea is prohibited for the representatives of Ashta Mutt) Vishwavijaya said that Puttige Mutt seer Sugunendrathirtha had made a issue of it it, but later Puthige seer himself visited foreign countries and against his earlier stand, he continues to hold the position of head of the Mutt.

He questioned as to why a single law or principle is not in place for the Ashta Mutt.

Though he had sent a legal notice on the same issue to all the eight mutt heads in January 2016, none replied to the same and hence he has now filed a suit.
However, Pejawar Mutt seer refusing to comment on the same said that he is yet to receive the notice.
