One killed, 28 injured in bus- tanker collision near Byndoor

Udupi : One person was killed and twenty eight sustained injuries in an accident between a tanker and a bus at Nagoori on NH 66 at Byndoor of Udupi district on Monday, March 27 here.

The deceased person has been identified as Narayan Acharya, the driver of the tanker and a resident of Shivalli, Udupi Taluk.

It is gathered that the tanker was moving from Mangaluru to Hubballi while the private bus named Ambaji was moving in the opposite direction from Kundapur to Byndoor. Owing to the impact of the collision the front portions of the both tanker and bus have been crushed as well as a bike that was parked nearby was damaged in the incident.

According to the police, the driver of the tanker had sustained severe injuries ans was taken to a private hospital in Kundapur. He however succumbed to his wounds later. Around 28 passengers too suffered injuries due to the accident. Byndoor police with the help of locals carried out the rescue operations as well as guided in directing the blocked traffic on the highway.

A case has been registered at Byndoor police station and investigations are on.
