Manipal girl makes India proud in Sweden

Manipal: Sangeetha Iyer, a fifth year student of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) from Manipal University, recently represented India in Euro Heart Care, annual Congress of Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions (CCNAP), organized by European Society of Cardiology, Jonkoping, Sweden in May 2017.

A total of 10 research scholars from across the globe got an exclusive travel scholarship to participate in the global summit and her research poster bagged the first prize for India amongst many other competing researchers from countries like UK, USA, Japan, Russia, Netherlands, Portugal, Norway, Spain, Turkey, Iceland etc;

Her research emphasizes on preventing heart diseases in the community. She is presented a paper on “Assessing the effect of gender in the management of Atrial fibrillation.”

She has successfully completed an interdisciplinary project under the supervision of Dr Ranjan Shetty K, renowned interventional cardiologist in India.

Her research work stems up with her keen interests in Preventive Cardiology. With an exponentially growing trend of cardiovascular diseases in India, a strong need exists to embrace novel approaches to identify the high-risk individuals at the earliest and ensure appropriate management. In connection to this, she is working to develop pharmaceutical preventive care models which can assist the global community of clinical pharmacists which can also make a huge impact on reducing the financial burden to patients.

It is also noted that Sangeetha had previously been invited to present her research paper at Euro Hearth Care, Athens, Greece with over 1000 participants from over 40 countries, last year. The abstract of her works have also been published in the European Journal of Cardiovascular Nursing, an official Journal of The Council on Cardiovascular Nursing and Allied Professions. “Every girl should be able to achieve her dreams. My Parents have been very supportive and also I am equally blessed to have good friends and teachers to support me. Also, John Prashanth Kumar, Asst Professor at my college has been a great support to me,” said Sangeetha.

She is the daughter of Sathyanarayan and Bhanu Sathya currently residing at Manipal.
