Manipal: Well-known philanthropist, Dr. G Shankar on the occasion of his 63rd birthday on 5 October 2017 donated Rs 81 Lakh towards cancer and dialysis patients of Kasturba Hospital here recently. Through the G Shankar Family Trust established in 2002, he has been engaged in realising his dream of ushering in a better society free from pain and poverty. Since its inception, the Trust has been doing charitable service for the poor and the needy.
At the function, where he made his contribution to the poor, he said,“Sharing a part of my wealth with the needy is my motto and I will continue doing it till I am able to do so. Last year on my 62nd birthday over Rs 2 Crore was donated to various hospitals in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts to take care of the medical expenses of poor patients.”
“This year, while I am celebrating my 63rd birthday, I have decided to donate nearly Rs 41 Lakh towards the medical expenses of 163 poor cancer patients and another Rs 40 Lakh for about 200 patients suffering from kidney disease at the hospital here”, he disclosed. He made these contributions in memory of his mother Laxmi Soma Bangera, who was also diagnosed with cancer. “I am thankful to Manipal University and Kasturba Hospital for their wholehearted support to all these initiatives and healthcare services,” Dr. G Shankar added.
