Udupi: Former MLA Raghupathy Bhat has warned of severe consequences if the suspension order of Prakash, Police Constable attached to Malpe Police Station is not revoked within 24 hours.
He was speaking to reporters at Press Club on Monday to express his solidarity with the police constable, who had attacked an eve-teaser, who incidentally happened to be employed in fish meal factory owned by district in-charge minister Pramodh Madhwaraj.
Recalling the attack on Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag recently by the illegal sand miners and the eve-teasers targeting the constable’s pregnant wife, Bhat said that the safety of women has become a serious concern ever since Pramodh Madhwaraj became the district in-charge minister.
“Prakash had done what a policeman is expected to do. He attacked the eve-teasers who went to the extent of grabbing his wife by her hands. The Malpe Station SI made a complaint against the constable with the Superintendent of Police and instantly Prakash was suspended. It is the Malpe SI who should have been suspended,” said Bhat adding that it very evident that Pramodh MAdhwaraj has played behind the scenes to keep Prakash under suspension.
“Without registering FIR, how one can be suspended from duty,” he questioned.
Kota Srinivas Poojary MLC, Udyakumar Shetty BJP leader, Sheela K Shetty and other leaders spoke during the protest. Yashpal Suvarna, Kuthyaru Naveen Shetty, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Suresh Nayak, Lalaji Mendon, Akshith Shetty, Githanjali Suvarna, Shreesha Nayak, Shyamala Kundar, Nayana Ganesh and other leaders were present.
The BJP members also staged a protest and later submitted a memorandum to Superintendent of Police and said that within 24 hours Prakash should be reinstated.
