Udupi: The first direct phone-in programme of the Udupi district administration succeeded as several queries poured in from general public, at Deputy Commissioner’s office, Rajathadri, on Monday, March 27.
Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis who took up the queries made sure that the callers were aptly answered and the problem that could be solved at the earliest were forwarded to departments concerned.
In a span of one hour, ie from 10 m to 11 as many as 44 calls were handled.
Ramesh Kotian, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leader said that the students in the government hostel at Bannanje in Udupi were facing acute water shortage. He had brought the matter to the notice of the Udupi City Municipal Council authorities, but there was no action.
The DC ordered D. Manjunathaiah, CMC Commissioner to supply water through tanker to the hostel daily and directed the District Social Welfare Officer to submit a report on the action taken with regard to the said complaint.
Manjunath, Secretary of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Katpady told that the school had 1400 students and the school well used to pump water to Katpady Grama panchayat during the summer. However, this year since the well has dried up there is enough water only for the usage of the school.
The DC said that she would talk to the Panchayat Development Officer in this regard and try to work out an amicable solution.
A caller from Kundapur complained that several pockets of the region have been converted into gambling den and that the police should act immediately.
