Udupi: Dr H Nagesh Prabhu, IFS assumed charge as Member Secretary, Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India on June 19, 2015 at Bengaluru. He succeeds Ms. Ishita Roy, IAS.
Central Silk Board headed by Dr. H. Nagesh Prabhu, has been assigned with the responsibility of overall development of sericulture and silk industry of the country, besides advising Govt. of India in the matters related to the silk industry.
The various developmental programmes and inter-related supportive programmes as well as R&D schemes are being implemented by Central Silk Board throughout the country. Board is also directly responsible for organizing sericultural research, training of sericulture personnel, basic seed production, reviewing the impact of imports and exports, standardization and quality control measures etc.
Dr H. Nagesh Prabhu ealier served as the Joint Secretary in the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India.
Dr. H. Nagesh Prabhu, a 1984 batch of Indian Forest Service Officer, is a product of University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad, and he hails from Chittoor village of Kundapur taluk in Udupi district.
