Karkala: The electricity wires above Belman town have created a situation of terror among the residents as they are on the verge of falling.
The High tensions as well as the low tension wires are leaning over the entire town and may create an untoward situation anytime if they fall on the people residing or passing under them
A close observation also shows that these wires are loose and have been joined at five points within a distance of 5 meters.
An iron mesh is generally used underneath the wires usually by Mescom, but surprisingly it has not been implemented in Belman.
When the first monsoon rains arrived this year, these wires had fallen off. But timely information to Mescom by the bus agents and local traders saved the town from disaster.
However the Mescom personnel onlyre joined the wires. They did not initiate any protective measures even after they realized the situation.
Xavier D’Mello, the taluk panchayat member said that he has informed the Mescom and also raised this issue in taluk panchayat meetings.
It is Karkala-Padubidri road repair will start in Belman very soon and that the Mescom has decided to change the wires and poles during this time, concluded Xavier D’Mello.
