Udupi: Three persons including a 14-year old boy of the same family drowned off Kaup beach on Saturday.
The deceased are identified as Harsha (14), Jagadish Rao (39) and Sunil (30), a resident of Sanoor. While, two others who were swimming with them managed to reach seashore safely.
According to the police, Prakash Rao, a resident of Karkala along with his family and guests came to the beach on a weekend picnic to the beach. Prakash Rao is a member of Karkala town municipal council.
The incident took place in the evening when most of the family members ventured into the sea for a swim. Among them, five were caught in high waves, while two managed to escape, the trio got swept away.
Besides, a board was put up in the beach, cautioning the visitors on venturing into the sea. Last year on December 16, three persons, including two students from Bangalore, were drowned off in the same beach.
