‘State Parthisubba award’ for three Yakshgana artists conferred

Udupi: The State Government’s reputed ‘Yakshagana Parthi Subba Award’ was given to three senior artists at the Sri Gurunarasihma Temple premises, Saligrama on Thursday.
     
Dr Shimanthur Narayana Shetty, author (Yakshagana prasanga), M Ranganath Rao puppetry artists and G S Bhat Mysore (Yakshagana Arthadhari), were honoured with Parthi Subba award. Umashree minister for Kannada and Culture and also women and child development bestowed the award with cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each to the artists.

Artists while sharing their opinion said that “we are happy that at least few people have still interest in this art and they recognised us”. Yakshgana is not a simple art, it includes scientific aspects, we are trying to explain the root of this art by sharing it to our students.
     
On the occasion Umashree said that Yakshagana is an art form of coastal district. It represents the culture and ritual of Udupi. Such functions should frequently organised so that the contributions made by yakshagana artistes are honoured.

The state government always supports the cultural art of Karnataka and Yakshagana is one among them. Government always working to increase the cash prize from next year.

MP Jayaprakash Hegde, former MP for Udupi-Chikkamagaluru, A Eshwarayya senior journalist and critic, and others were present.

Academy Annual award winners for the year 2013,:  Malpe Vasudeva Samaga (Udupi), Kappagere Subaraya Bhagwat (Uttara Kannada), Prof S V Uday Kumar Shetty (Udupi), Kokkadati Krishnamurthi (Shivamogga), Bantwal Jayarama Acharya (Shivamogga), B?M Nimbagallu Rudraiah (Ballari), Narayan Kariganoor(Ballari), Channabasavaiah (Tumakuru), Basavalingappa Gurubasappa ?Vibhute (Kalaburagi) and Ishwarchandra Bettagori (Belagavi).

For the year 2014, the award has been given to Udyavar Jayakumar (Udupi), Nayak (Udupi), Krishna Bhandary (Uttara Kannada), Mudakappa Hanumappa Hosur (Bagalkot), Satyakka (Hassan), Sannapalaiah (Chitradurga), Nelligere Thimmappachar (Mandya), Mahadevappa Avaradhi (Belagavi) and Sanna basappa (Yadgir).
