Karkala: The Karkala municipal authority has undertaken a special sanitation drive on the occasion of the Mahamastakabhisheka of Lord Bahubali to ensure cleanliness in and around the area.
As many as 100 workers have been appointed for keeping the surroundings clean.
The contract had been given to a person named Prasad from Mangaluru, under whom there were 45 workers. Remaining workers had been appointed by the local municipality. Prasad had worked for Mangalore city corporation, earlier.
Flexes displaying awareness on cleanliness were put up and separate barrels for dry and wet waste had been placed. Cleanliness in the exhibition area and markets was maintained all through the process.
Gopala, Supervisor while speaking to Newskarnataka said that the Karkala municipality has given special attention towards cleanliness.
Rayappa, Karkala TMC Chief Officer said, “Keeping the area clean is the responsibility of all. Merchants should keep the given area clean so separate bins have been provided to them. Strict instructions have been given to them to put dry and wet waste in the bins. If the instructions are not followed fines will be imposed “, he said.
