Sorake: State government gives lot of importance to developmental work

Udupi: Minister In-charge while hoisting the national Flag on the occasion of 66th Republic Day celebrations at the MGM Ground on Monday January 26 said that the government gives more importance to development works which benefit the common man.

After the usual celebration which included a parade and cultural programmes, Minister said, “the state government always concentrates on every field of administration for the betterment of the state. The government is more interested in social welfare programmes and has undertaken every single programme for the welfare of the public”..

“The government also gives importance to sanitation and clean India Abhiyan as well as encourages tourism” he added.
He said that Rs. 85 crore is used for drainage and water supply. For second phase of Nagarothana scheme, Rs 45 crore iwill be used for drinking water. “Mini Vidhana Soudha at Udupi will be constructed soon. The work on mini Vidhana Soudha in Kundapur is in its final stage and it will be inaugurated soon,” he assured.

Beach development will be taken up at a cost of Rs 9.13 crore. Rs 122.59 crore will be used for the construction of Hejmady Kodi Fisheries Harbour. To protect interest of the farmers, 110 cases have been sorted through Kandaya Adalat. Rs 159.21 lac has been sanctioned for constructing roads stretching 747.57 km in rural areas.8, 713 toilets have been built under Nirmal Bharat programme.

On the occasion, Sarvothama Awards for the best achievers and a few Schools were also honoured for their achievement in National and State-level sports.

Manipal University celebrates R-Day

Likewise Manipal University also celebrated the 66th Republic Day at the KMC Greens here on Monday. The one-hour programme organized by the School of Communication covered all aspects of celebrations with clock-work procession.

The Tri-colour was unfurled by Vice Chancellor, Dr K Ramnarayan, who also inspected the guard of honour and took the salute at the smart march past and delivered the R-Day address. Director of School of Communication (SOC), Prof Nandini Lakshmikantha welcomed the gathering.

Twenty contingents belonging to different institutions, NCC, security and Asare took part in the march past. The best turnout this time round was Kasturba Medical College which stood first, the second place was bagged by School of Architecture and the third place was bagged by Manipal College of Nursing. The students of  the SOC also presented a cultural programme.
