Udupi: The Zilla Panchayat General meeting discussed solutions for  the current issues of Kundapura, Karkala and Udupi at the DC’s office here on October 30.

A unanimous decision was taken by the ZP members against the PDO of Perdoor Gram Panchayat who allegedly used the flag post for leisure activities. Members demanded immediate dismissal of the PDO, and an investigation followed by criminal proceedings against him.

Questions were raised on the implementation and the  continuity of Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan in the district.

Member Ananth Muwadi said that the gram panchayats of Maravanthe have ignored the maintenance and cleanliness of  the beach area. He added that thousands tourists visit these beaches; still the tourism department, revenue department as well as the panchayat has done nothing, he alleged.

Member Arun Kumar demanded the reason behind students siting for the SSLC exam privately, even though they are under 16 years of age. DDPI said that inquiry is initiated into the matter and assured that the numbers of such students are continuouslyy decreasing year by year.

There was a long discussion on the failure of two pilot projects of  multi village drinking water schemes. Phase 1 in Karkala and Hebri, was a failure after crores of rupees were spent and not even single village could be provided adequate water facility. Moreover the second phase is also not successful, said MLC Prathap Chandra Shetty. He demanded that the CEO to clarify the matter at the earliest.

The ZP CEO said that a letter has been sent for the approval of the second phase and then water can be supplied to the people at Hebri. He added that,  for further extension,  a proposal will be sent.
