Police raid; Six nabbed for selling antique idols

Udupi: The Udupi police have recovered antique temple idols from a gang during a raid, here on Monday October 27.

The arrested have been identified as Mahadev Naik (41), Eshwar Reddy (44), Sadhashiv Gowda (35), Shekar Mendon (48), Venkatesh Naik (27), and Basavaraj S H, (40).

Acting on valuable information, the police nabbed the gang, who were reportedly residing in a hotel in the city.

During the raid they found two ancient idols made of copper worth Rs 5 lakhs. The idols seized are that of Lord Srinivasa and Padmavathi.

Police also seized mobile phones and a Swift car. It is learnt that the accused had come to sell the idols.

A case has been registered in the Town Police Station.
