Udupi: Shree Vishwesha Theerta Swamiji of Pejwar Math on Friday paid a visit to the Dalit Colony at Nittur, extending an invitation to the upcoming ‘Hindu Samajotsava’. He also told them the convention is aimed to highlight the need to unite Hindus.
The families of Chandravathi, Appi, Boja, Somappa and Babu nittur, welcomed swamiji.
He later told the media that the visit was personal and asked not to use it for political purposes. “My intension is clear; I want Hindus to stand united. Caste, which exists in Hinduism should not discriminate one another”, he said and stressed on equality among Hindus.
He said, “It is shameful that Hindus cannot stand united like Muslims and Christians do. In Hinduism, caste differences are high.
He also stressed that equality in Hinduism is only possible through the upliftment of Dalit and all the backward castes. “We are all equal in the society and the social evil practices like untouchability and caste discrimination should be wiped out completely.
Swamiji, who is highly regarded in the coastal Karnataka, felt that the Hindu Samajotsava is set to strengthen the Hindu community and fight against conversions. Seer said that he does not support ‘Pakthi bedha’ at Sri Krishna Mutt. “While, a few devotees chose to follow and I don’t stop them”, he clarified. Besides, the Seer did not support inter-caste marriages.
On the occasion, the swamiji contributed Rs. 5000 towards the renovation of Shree Babbuswami Temple.
