Udupi: Around 10 people participated in the ritual ‘Yede Snana’ performed at the Sri Muchlukodu Subrahmanya Temple here on Thursday November 27.

This is the second successive year that the “Yede Snana” was held at this temple, which comes under the Pejawar Math.

Earlier Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Math had suggested ‘Yede Snana’ as an alternative to the ‘Madey Snana’ ritual.

Under ‘Madey Snana’, the devotees rolled over the plantain leaves containing leftovers of meals partaken by Brahmins; however after the opposition of progressive organizations and thinkers, the ritual was converted into ‘Yede Snana’ where devotees roll over the “prasada” or “food offered to the deity” which were kept on plantain leaves.

Seven women and three men were seen performing the ritual with much devotion. All the devotees while speaking expressed the religious importance of the ceremony.
