Udupi: The former Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary in a protest rally organized by the district BJP Backward Class Morcha, on Friday, January 30, alleged that around 38 lakh BPL cards are withheld in the State .

The protesters demanded that the state government resolve the problems, and provide pending cards to the needy at the earliest. If they fail to do so, within a week, BJP will organise a vigorous protest against the state government, which will affect the smooth work at taluk offices.

“CM Siddaramaiah only speaks about poor people but does nothing for them. He never misses a chance to praise his Annabhagya scheme, but what about the people who don’t have card? How will they avail their basic needs?”

He added that cards are not given to the people who applied 6 months ago. In Udupi 76000 applications for ration card are pending.

He demanded that the ration cards should be provided through the gram panchayats. He said measures should be taken to recruit sufficient number of employees in the ration card distribution centers.

He demanded that measures should be taken to provide basic facilities to the people who stand in queue for the cards.
