Udupi :The Holy month of Ramadan, is when Muslims rejuvenate themselves by observing fast and asking forgiveness from  Lord (Allah). A lavish meal served at the end of the day long fast during Ramadan,  is a special event in the daily calendar of a devout muslim.

While some break fast at home, with relatives and friends, most Muslims go to the mosque for their iftar, breaking the day’s fast with dear and near ones and the general community.

In such a holy and auspicious month, Udupi Jamia Masjid and Muslim welfare association, as they do every year, organized an Iftar,  for 700 members.

Mohammed Moula, president of Muslim Welfare Association said, ” This system of Iftar (breaking the fast) started 27 years back and is still continuing. He added that the expense for one Iftar is around Rs 40,000 per day.

He proudly said that every year Muslims who are financially well settled, come forward to donate for Ifthar because that is the order from God.

Gafoor Kalyanpura said that the mosque is collecting Fithr through out the month (certain percentage of the salary is been donated to the poor). At the end of the Ramdan month around 2. 5 to 3 lac will be collected here. The amount will be distributed to the poor a day prior to the festival day.

The local youth do all the preparations of the food items. Iftar is followed by prayers and then a heavy meal. Moula added that the holy month of Ramadan is expected to culminate with Eid on the 27th of this month.

The Mosque provides dates, samosa, ghee rice , chicken curry and fruits accompanied by delicacies such as Hareera (made with rava).

Health Tips

Dr. Zhubaida Ahmad told  News Karnataka that the holy month of Ramadan offers an excellent opportunity to the Muslims to stay near God with better life style and Payers.

Healthwise Ramadan directly and indirectly helps to control weight because of special namaz and eating the right kind of food. It has spiritual, physical, psychological, and social workouts.

Fasting improves blood cholesterol, reduces gastric acidity, prevents constipation and other digestive problems. Dietary guidelines suggest one should eat a variety of food using principles of moderation and balance.

In India, people struggle with health problems in these days because of over-eating and insufficient sleep and water level in the body. It is wise to avoid high calorie food.

Immediately at thetime of Iftar it is suggested to drink glucose which will give energy to every living cell, particularly the brain and the nerve cells. Drinking water as much as possible between Iftar and bedtime will be diffidently beneficial.
