Udupi: A new administrative building of the Coastal Security Police and Police Residential quarters was officially inaugurated by K J George, Home minister at Malpe on Tuesday November 25.

Addressing the gathering Home Minister said, coastal police have always proved successful in protecting the coast from sea borne terror activities. There are 9 coastal security police stations in the coastal stretch in the state. He added that the law and order in the state is under control.

He said now a days, crime activities are mostly targeted against women and children of the society. To tackle the issue CM has issued an order to the police department, regarding atrocities or rape – An FIR should be registered even if it did not come under concerned jurisdiction.

Almost 90% complaints are filed and proceeded for the court hearing, he further added the best example was Manipal rape case, the victim did not want to register a complaint, but still the culprit is in jail.

George added that the culprit will be punished without any delay, in this regard 10 fast track-courts are working in the state. The earlier government set up 10 fast track courts exclusively to try atrocities against women but merged them with the normal. There are enough sections like 376(IPC) which will give maximum punishment to the accused. But the criminal has very limited idea regarding this.

“There was 22,000 staff shortage in the police department out of which 8,500 men have been recruited already and others don’t have adequate training facilities.  However to balance it we recruited 7,000 home guards with increased allowance.”

He further said ‘The State government will construct 11,500 new police quarters in the state, of which 200 will be for Udupi district. “Congress will not just say but will do whatever is promised”.

He also declared “within 15 days, a new fire engine will be given to the district and state government is also planning to give 400 new vehicles to the police department and few will come to Udupi too”.

Regarding the demand for his resignation Minister said, congress never entertained any corrupt ministers. Opposition is raising allegations without any proof.

Before the inauguration, the BJP Yuva Morcha staged a Dharna in front of the Malpe Bhunder demanding the Home Minister’s resignation.

Yashpal Suvarna, BJP leader while speaking to the media said that “we are demanding the resignation of four ‘tainted’ ministers – K J George is one among them. It also includes Qamarul Islam, Mahadeva Prasad and Dinesh Gundu Rao in land scam. Later all the protesters were arrested.
