Shiroor: A school bus belonging to HMMS School – Byndoor toppled near Uthinane at 8.30 in the morning, on December 18 – causing serious injuries to the children in the bus.
According to onlookers, the driver of the school bus hit a cement wall on the left side of the road, and when it toppled, he fled. However the locals rushed to rescue the passengers.
Khalika Vidat, Shahrukh and Afaan – who were in the bus suffered gruesome injuries and are admitted to KMC hospital in Manipal. Around 25 children have also been admitted to Chinmayi hospital in Kundapur for minor injuries.
The injured are Anith,Rahil,Abdul Ramid, Mahmud Rahman, Nijav Tasleem, Ismail Azim,Shabib, Sraddha, Riha, Mujahit, Mushtaq Ahmed, Hinkar Mustaf, Ilva, Yathishama, Anam, Nihal, Rabi, Altamish, Mohammed Rohan, Shafi Mohammed, Mohammed Shafia, Afin Begum, Fahi Alam, Mohammed Shahir, Vardha, Nura and Nujifa.
Reportedly, around 40-60 children were traveling in the bus which is more than the stated capacity – thus as the bus was overloaded – it toppled. However, the exact cause of the accident is not yet known.
Assistant commissioner Charulatha Somal, Tahasildar Gayatri Nayak visited the place of the accident.
A case is registered; the police are investigating.
