Udupi: After the Karnataka High Court passed the interim stay order on the decisions of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district administrations, which had denied permission for “Kambala”, the Zilla Nagarika Samithi and Kambala lovers, held a grand celebration.
On December 15, after the order was passed, the members of the samithi organized a march though the city with decorated buffaloes, music and crackers.
Nityananda Olakadu, Nagarika Samithi, president, said the the order by the high court has helped the people of “Tulunadu” to sustain their culture and the most loved sport – “Kambala”
Asserting that no violence towards the animals is involved in the game, he said, “This is a folk game and our culture is cherished, no brutality is involved in it.”
“I hope that our ancient folk art will never die”, he concluded.
