Udupi: In an abhorrent incident a one-and-a-year-old calf was used to satisfy the sexual urges of few unidentified men near the labour colony in Padoor of Majoor village on Sunday September 21.
The calf belongs to Narayana Kulal of Padoor Shantigudde. Police have already taken four suspects from the labour colony for questioning over the filthy episode of sexual assault on the animal.
Reportedly Kulal had tied the calf near his house to feed on the fodder, however when Kulal came out to have a look, he noticed that the calf was missing. He therefore went searching for the calf and found it near the forest area, he also noticed blood on the calf as well as stains at the spot where it was found.
After a while he spotted a youth walking around holding a bottle of liquor and caught hold of him. The locals who had gathered there by then realized what had happened and began looking around and caught the other youths as well.
The Shirva police inspector Ashok P and other police personnel were called in as the locals started agitating over the heinous incident. The police tried to calm them down. However they were backed by the Kalathur Janajagruti Vedike members and demanded immediate eviction of the labour colony.
With the help of the labour colony manager, the police took the four youths into custody.
Assistant director of animal husbandry department Srikanth Phadke and Shirva veterinary doctor Arun Kumar Hegde examined the calf and confirmed that it seemed to have been subjected to a sexual assault.
