Udupi: The former district president of JD(S), Dr Deviprasad Shetty on Sunday April 19 joined Congress.

He had quit the Party led by former Prime Minister of India H.D. Deve Gowda just four days before he joined the Congress.

Urban development minister and district in-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake, block Congress president Naveenchandra Shetty and other party leaders welcomed him into the party in a simple ceremony held at the Congress office in Kaup.

Dr Deviprasad Shetty said that he believes in secularism and decided to join Congress. He also felt that the voters in Udupi district are not ready to vote for regional party like JD(S).  However he claimed that he was not betrayed by the JD(S). “Former Prime Minister and JD(S) chief Deve Gowda has special affection for me and it is with his blessings only that I have come forward to take this step”, he said.

He concluded stating that he does not have any expectations from high command and just wants to serve the needy.
