Udupi: The District Savitha Samaja staged a protest in front of SP office on Monday, June 23 demanding the arrest of all the assailants in the case of assault on a saloon shop owner and his staff in the town. Before the protest, a rally was organized from District Savitha Samaja office, Amabalpadi to Ajjarkad through KM Road, Service Bus stand and Bannanje.
After the rally the protestors assembled in front of the SP office and demanded action in connection with the case of assault on Ashok Bhandari Parkala and his staff on June 19, late night.
The accused have already been booked for threatening the victims. The protestors demanded to register an attempt to murder case and arrest all accused. They further demanded protection to the victims. A memorandum was forwarded to SP Borolingayya in this regard.
The protesters warned that, if police failed to take action immediately, a memorandum will be forwarded to DC by organizing a Padayatra to Udupi to DC office. Still if there is no result, then a hunger strike and district level protest will be organized, they warned.
The case
On June 19, the “Quick Hair Dress” owner, Ashok Bhandari Parkala, his workers, Subramanya and Raghavendra Bhandari, were attacked by a gang including Namadinnu, Praveen Hiryadka and others.
It is learnt that the members of the gang demanded for a haircut but the owner refused as it was too late. Agitated over this they thrashed the salon workers and attacked the owner Ashok with a machete.
Ashok is said to be in a critical condition and has been hospitalized at Ajjarkad.
The protest was organised as the police failed to nab the culprits even four days after the incident.
Govind Bhandari, Naveen Bhandari and Keshav Bhandari, Vishwanath Bhandari, Sadashiv Bangera and others were present.
