Udupi: The annual feast of St. Lawrence Shrine at Attur in Karkala will be observed from January 25 to 29.
Fr. George D’Souza, Rector of the shrine told presspersons that the celebration would begin on Sunday with the Holy Eucharist at 7.30am which will culminated with the Eucharistic procession. On January 26, there will be a special mass for children and senior citizens at 10.00am, he added.
Fr. D’Souza said about 39 holy masses will be offered during the festival, which will be in Konkani, Kannada, English and Malayalam. Bishop of Udupi Issac Lobo, Manglauru Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Shivamogga Bishop Francis Serrao and Belthangady Bishop Larence Mukkuzhy will offer masses.
On the safety lines, there are at least 48 CCTV camers installed at important places and another 16 CCTV camers will be placed around the shrine. We have sought the help of police, who will monitor the shrine round the clock, rector said.
He also said that there are few changes made at the shrine for the devotees. “On the eastern side of the shrine, more space has been created for the convenience of the pilgrims and devotees to offer prayers and petitions. The Sacrament of confession for the Catholics would be administered on the western side of the shrine, while the old church will be available for the personal prayers”, he added.
The contribution given by the devotees for charity will be districted to all need on January 30 at 12am along with lunch. There will be a ‘Thala Maddale’ based on the Bible on January 27 at 2pm, which is a new experiment in Konkani, he said.
