Tumakuru: Indian girls are going places, making the nation proud, but deep down, India is still a society that believes that only boys can be the true ‘torch bearers’ of the family.
In one such cases reported from Tumakuru, a couple’s craze and obsession to have a son has ended them having ten kids. Finally, as if their prayers were heard, after nine girls in a row, the 10th kid born to Bhagyamma and Ramkrishna of Kurikenahalli in Tumakuru was a boy.
The couple has been married over the last 15 years and they had their first child in 2003. With hardly any age gap, Bhagyamma then gave birth to eight more kids in a desperate bid to have a son, but to the couple’s dismay all the nine kids born to them were girls.
While in most cases, the couple end up doing such acts under pressure from family or by villagers, in this case, the family members of the couple and the villagers had advised them against having more kids considering their economic condition. But, the adamant couple paid no heed to sensible suggestions.
