Tumakuru: In a horrific incident, a Dalit man presumed to be stealing goats was tied to a tree and assaulted with wooden logs by a gang of five landlords and others resulting in his death here at Jogenahalli near Doddamaluru in Madhugiri taluk in the wee hours of Tuesday, March 21.The deceased, Krishanappa (40), a dalit of Mannuru in Madakashira taluk of Andhra Pradesh had reportedly entered a house belonging to Ramareddy along with a few of his aides around 3 am and was caught while attempting to steal a goat. While Krishnappa’s companions managed to escape in a vehicle in the dark, he was caught. An enraged Ramareddy and his sons assaulted Krishanappa with logs and beat him to death.
Based on a tip-off, Madhugiri police team led by inspector Narasimhamurthy visited the spot and recovered the body. The police are interrogating accused Ramareddy, his sons Babu and Nagaraju.
Relatives of the victim and a few dalit leaders laid siege to the Kodigenahalli police station and demanded action against the accused.Following the complaint by the victim’s elder brother Govindaraju, police have registered a case and taken up investigation.
