Indore: Looks like Indian cricketers are really unlucky regarding injuries in the ongoing India-New Zealand series. Gautam Gambhir was the latest Indian opener to be added to the injury list yesterday when the 34-year-old injured his right shoulder while diving to complete a second run and had to retire hurt in India’s second innings. The left-handed batsman from Delhi had gone off the field a few minutes before the tea break after he dived on the boundary and felt a bit of discomfort in the shoulder. He came out to bat but fell awkwardly on his right shoulder during the dive.

The extent of the injury is being assessed and a decision on whether Gambhir would come out to bat will be decided only after that. Coincidentally Gambhir had himself returned to the Indian team after a gap of two years due to injuries to openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan. Rahul had a hamstring injury in the first Test at Kanpur whereas Dhawan suffered a fractured finger after hit on his hand in the second Test at Kolkata.

It is very important for Gautam Gambhir to be fit. The star batsman was out of form and was dropped from international side. After performing well in domestic season, the selectors selected him in the ongoing series. This injury will surely play an important role in his career, as he may not get many chances to play again.
