Mysore: Mangalore United have emerged as the winners of the inaugural match of the third season of the Karnataka Premiere League (KPL) held at the Gangothri Glades Stadium. They defeated the celebrity team Rockstars led by Kiccha Sudeep by a comfortable seven wickets and eleven balls to spare.
The rockstars had been termed underdogs right from the start owing to the fact that unlike the other professional teams, they have not had a proper practice schedule nor professional training. However, they displayed exceptional skills on the ground, striking quite a few sixes and boundaries as well as getting three wickets. However, they lacked quite a bit in the fielding department, dropping four important catches with the sole exception of one beautiful catch in the outfield.
After losing the toss and being put into bat, the Rockstars managed to amass a total of 117/7 in their allotted 20 overs. Pradeep top scored for the rockstars with 44 off 39, followed by Rajeev at 35 off 24. Udit Patel, son of ace cricketer Brijesh Patel was the pick of the Mangalore United bowlers who managed to scrape 3 wickets for just 25 runs.
In response, Mangalore United reached the score of 118 with the loss of three wickets and eleven balls to spare. Pawan scored an undefeated 24. Vikranth from the Rockstars amassed 2 wickets for just 19 runs.
Udit Patel won the Best Fielder of the Match Award and Karun Nair won the Man of the Match Award.
Due to technical issues however, the live telecast on Sony SIX intermittently kept going off and caused a bit of inconvenience to the viewers, who did not have access to the match or scores in any other media.
