Shivamoga: Primary and Secondary Education Minster Kimmane Ratnakar on Saturday assured that it was the state government’s responsibility to ensure justice to all the students who are facing discrepancies in their II PUC results.

“We will pay attention to resolving all the issues faced by parents and students. Our government is committed to providing justice to all the students,” he told reporters in Shivamogga.

The minister said the confusion which cropped up after the announcement of II PUC results would not occur in the future. “Several measures will be initiated to bring changes to the existing system,” he said.

Ratnakar said the department will conduct meetings with education experts and the authorities on how to rectify flaws and shortcomings in the existing examination system.

The department will also consider the suggestions of parents, he said.

Referring to  the failure of the director of the department and head of the Pre University board in not reaching out to parents and teachers through the media to clarify their doubts, Ratnakar said he has already directed the Principal Secretary to the Education Department to take disciplinary action against all those involved in the episode.

To a query over the cost of getting photocopies of answer scripts and re-evaluation, the minister said the government will increase the cost once every three years.

To another question, Ratnakar said the department has already sought an explanation from both the question paper setter and the printer. Action will be taken against them as per the rules, he said.

He added that during the tenure of Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri as Education Minister, the results of 3,500 students were withheld. Now this number is just 147, he said.

After four days of protests by students and parents, officials of the Department of Pre-university Education were slightly relieved on Saturday. Though a group of BJP Yuva Morcha and Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members staged a protest for a while in the morning, no students or parents joined them.

To clear the confusion and avoid anymore problems, department officials set up a help desk and received applications for photo copies and revaluation.

Meanwhile, following the decision of the state government to postpone the declaration of Common Entrance Test (CET) results, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has submitted a fresh schedule to the government for approval.
