Rakshit Shetty’s dream project “Thugs of Malgudi” should have gone on floors in June this year. Unfortunately, Rakshit had a prior commitment with “Avane Sriman Narayana”, which he is scripting as well as acting in. Therefore he could not concentrate on writing the script for “Thugs of Malgudi”.
There were news doing rounds that the project will be shelved, as Kiccha Sudeepa, who is expected to play the lead will be busy for next two years. However, Rakshit has dismissed the news. He says that after he completes “Avane Sriman Narayana”, he will start working on “Thugs of Malgudi”.
He also confirmed that “Thugs of Malgudi” is meant only for Kiccha Sudeepa and no one else will play the lead role. He also said that the project will be put on backburner only if Kiccha Sudeepa does not want to be part of it.
The film will explore life of a thug in the 19th Century in pre-Independence India. A similar film in Hindi is being made, titled “Thugs of Hindostan”. The Hindi film stars Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bacchan and Katrina Kaif in lead roles.
