Shimoga: Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, Kimmane Ratnakar, has directed all Deputy Directors of Public Instruction (DDPIs) and Block Education Officers (BEOs) to make a list of schools that are functioning without the government’s permission in the State and send the same to the officials concerned for suitable action.

The government has decided to name unrecognised schools every year to alert parents who may otherwise admit their children to such institutions, the minister told reporters here on Tuesday.

Replying to a query on Orchids, The International School, Bangalore, where a three-year-old girl was reportedly raped recently, Ratnakar said the management had permission to run a Kannada-medium school from class 1 to 5. But it violated the norms by going for English-medium education.

There are many such schools in the State and they have even moved the Supreme court in this regard, he added.

The minister announced a high-level meeting of top officials of the department of public instruction to discuss the Orchids school matter and said suitable action would be taken against the said institution.

Ratnakar further said that the department had directed all schools, including those run by the government, to take precautionary measures to prevent child sexual abuse. They have also been instructed to instal CCTV cameras, he said.
