Dharwad: The Deputy Commissioner P Rajendra Cholan raided a private godown in old APMC yard in Dharwad on Thursday night August 27, seized rice and wheat meant for distribution under the Anna Bhagya and public distribution system.
It is said that over 100 quintals of wheat and 50 quintals of rice worth Rs 15 lakh, was seized from the godown belonging to Sheikh and Company. Officials found that rice had been taken out from gunny bags bearing government seal, and transferred to new bags.
During the raid the deputy commissioner also ordered the seizure of a lorry that carried the wheat. The DC was accompanied by the police and officials of Food and Civil Supplies departments.
The godown owner and vehicle driver are said to be absconding.
