Sand mafia :DySP escapes murder attempt

Nagamangala :In a reported incident, a DySP who took on the sand mafia active in the area, escaped an attempt on her life by illegal sand transporters near Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple on the banks of river Shimsha near Arakere village in Devalapura Hobli of the Taluk on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off on illegal sand transportation, Nagamangala Sub-Division Dy. SP Savitha Hoogar along with other Police personnel, rushed to the spot and asked the sand lorries to stop, when one of the drivers allegedly made an attempt to run over her. Sensing danger, Savitha jumped aside to save herself. However, the sand Lorry (KA-11 A 4005) hit the Police vehicle, a SUV, damaging one of its doors. The lorry after hitting the Police vehicle, got stuck in a mud slush, when the lorry driver and another occupant of the lorry managed to flee the spot under the cover of darkness, it is learnt.

Following the incident, Dy. SP Savitha Hoogar seized the sand lorry and took a JCB and another sand lorry into custody on the banks of Shimsha river.

She later lodged a complaint with Nagamangala Rural Police, who swing into action and arrested the lorry driver identified as Madhu from Koppa in the Taluk. The Police are quizzing the lorry driver about the incident, it is learnt.
