Mandya: A woman had alleged an incident wherein she was forced to sell her kidney to bribe a revenue official that the Upalokayukta was probing has turned false.

On Saturday the 55-year-old woman Chikkatayamma gave a different version to the Upalokayukta Subash B. Adi.

Chikkatayamma from Kalisiddanahundi, near Srirangapatna, recently alleged that she sold one of her kidneys in Bengaluru to bribe a revenue official. She said that an official named Doddaiah had demanded bribe from Chikkatayamma, to change the khata to her name, which was earlier issued to her deceased father. Unable to pay the bribe amount, she sold her kidney.

Adi and a few officials visited the district on Saturday to conduct an inquiry. The Upalokayukta verified some documents pertaining to a piece of land of Ms. Chikkatayamma and also interacted with her.

However the enquire probed that Chikkathayamma sold one of her kidneys. But, the purpose of selling it was not to bribe the revenue official,” the Upalokayukta said.

Poverty had prompted her to sell her organ although it was not to bribe the revenue inspector Doddaiah, he said.

However understanding the delay in the situation, Adi instructed the officials to take steps to set right her land records. He also said that he would recommend the State government to transfer those revenue officials who have been serving at a place for more than five years immediately.

Moreover the Upalokayukta said, “Chikkatayamma has no details about the hospital where the organ transplantation was done or to whom she sold.”
