Hubballi: Over the last week, 35 persons were arrested in the city for placing bets on the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup matches.
Bookies allegedly had a field day during the India-Pakistan match last Sunday, when crores of rupees were placed as bets in the twin cities alone.
Deputy Commissioner of police (law and order) Hanumantharaya said several teams have been formed to crack down on betting activities in the twin cities. “We are conducting raids frequently to swoop down on bookies operating from Hubballi.”
On Tuesday, Kasabapeth, Gokul Road and Keshwapur police raided several places and arrested 28 bookies. Hanumantharaya said such raids will continue till the end of World Cup.
