Electric poles just 2 feet away from state highway, pose danger

Somvarpet: Electric poles erected unscientifically just 2 feet away from the state highway is posing danger to both motorists and pedestrians.  The Public has complained of increased accidents due to this in Kagadi Katte on the Virajpet-Byndoor state highway 27.

Lingaraju, public works department objected to the move to put up poles at the roadside and issued notice to the SES. But SES officials and contractors have not taken this issue seriously.

This year, the state government has decided to expand Virajpet-Byndoor road and works are under progress in this regard. Even after these developments, SES officials have taken no action.

“Now the poles must be removed and this will cause loss in lakhs to the government,” said Taluk panchayath member J R Palaksha.

Last week, a driver lost control of his car and hit an electric pole and miraculously escaped from danger. But he had to pay fine around thousand rupees for the broken pole to SES.

This is an example of Government money being wasted due to these unscientific works undertaken by the selfish officials, say locals.
