Dharwad: Dharwad, which has already carved a niche for itself in the field of literature, art and music, has added another feather to its cap.

A Dharwad-based lad has grabbed the attention of the people by designing the country’s smallest bike. This two-stroke bike is all set to enter the Limca Book of records shortly. R Girish, who is studying final year at K H Kabbur Polytechnic, has earned the credit of designing this innovative bike which runs on petrol and has the capacity to carry over 100 kg load.

Giving details of this rare feat in the automobile field, Girish stated that already world’s smallest electronic bike has been designed, but none had thought of designing smallest petrol bike.

It took almost six years to design this bike and now, it is ready for trials. Interestingly, some of the automobile parts required to run this bike were not available in the market and hence, such parts were designed by himself.

The bike is 22-inch long, 13-inch wide and 13-inch tall and weighs 9.5 kg. It has a 25 CC 1HP engine and has the capacity to run at a speed of 10 km per hour and the mileage of the bike ranges between 40 and 50 km per litre.

The smallest bike has been named as ‘Giri-14.’ He said, as per the available data, none in India have designed such a small bike and hence, this invention is all set to enter the Limca Book of records.

Girish was attracted towards bikes from his childhood days. After manufacturing small electronic goods, he developed the passion to design the smallest bike. While studying in class 10, Girish had designed a petrol engine which had bagged a prize at the ‘Jignyasa,’ a science expo.

This encouraged him to think of new innovations. For his third year project, Girish had designed a bicycle which can run on gas and petrol. This bicycle had a mileage of 80 km per litre of petrol and 120 km per kg LPG cylinder.

Now, Girish dreams of designing an alternative fuel vehicle and has already formulated plans to realise his dream.
