Belagavi: Om Prakash, Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP), questioned the officials of Belagavi police commissionerate over the increased crime rate in the city.
Om Prakash after receiving guard of honour at the police ground here on Thursday said that there have been several cases of chain snatching and theft in city.
He further said increased number of chain snatching cases have smashed the image of police.” There is still time to set the house in order, by working rationally and with good intention. The public have lot of expectations from the new police commissionerate. They don’t want any excuses but the results”, he stressed.
Om Prakash also thanked the Goa police for giving timely information, which helped Belagavi police to detain a gang of chain snatchers.
He mentioned that two members of the gang have been arrested, and the rest 8-10 people are still absconding. “There are two chain snatching gangs based out of Ahmednagar and Pune, that are active in Belagavi and surrounding areas”, Om Prakash said.
He informed that, the government has sanctioned Rs 25 crores for the new Belagavi police commissionerate, which will be used for the construction of commissionerate office near the RTO office, purchasing modern equipment and installing CCTV cameras etc.
