Tumakuru: Two days after the gruesome bear attack which resulted in the death of a farmer in Shobenahalli village of Madhugri taluk, Tumakuru district, another bear attacked a farmer in the area on Wednesday.
Narasimmaraju, 26, of Tippagondanahalli, Midgeshi hobli, was attacked when he was taking pigs to his farm. As he ran for his life, he stumbled on a rock and was injured. He’s undergoing treatment at a hospital in Hosakere in the taluk.
Hundreds of villagers protested against the forest department for not taking enough measures to control movement of bears near human habitation.
Naresh K, a villager, said they alerted the department about the problem several times but it has not heeded their pleas. “They have not taken the necessary steps to control bears from entering villages or attempted to catch them,” he added.
Villagers said they could escape if bear attacks happen during the day. “What if the problem occurs at night? Bears are being spotted near our villages and we’re worried following the recent death,” said a frightened villager from Shobenahalli.
