Dharwad :The Dharwad bench of the High Court has awarded five-year imprisonment to a person convicted of raping a three-year-old girl.
Rangappa Sanna Eerappa of Bennur village in Gangavathi taluk of Koppal district was accused of raping a three-year-old girl in November 2009.
The Fast Track Court in Koppal had acquitted him of the charge, finding lapses in the investigation. The State government filed an appeal challenging the acquittal.
A bench comprising Justices Dr K Bhaktavatsala and Pradeep Waingankar set aside the acquittal and convicted Rangappa of the rape charge. A fine of Rs 10,000 has also been levied on him.
