Abu Dhabi: St Joseph’s Konkani Community came together for a family picnic here at Yas Park, North gate on Friday 24th February. After forming the Committee for the first time and celebrating Christmas 2016 in December, this is the second time more than 300 community members had fun and participated in the games with joy and support to each other with great spirit.
Four buses came from three destinations to the Yas Park by 9 am and the picnic started with a prayer by Rev. Fr. Rodson Goes OFM Cap, Assistant Parish Priest of St Joseph’s Cathedral Abu Dhabi and the Spiritual Director of the Committee. The whole day was ably managed with games like straw game, Queen of Sheba, Balloon game, Eating fruits and vegetables, Portfolio game, Tug-of-war and dressing a male with lady costumes.
MCs Reena Pinto, Rupert Vaz,Vivek Serrao and Chandini did a wonderful job.
Earlier, after the warm up game well directed by Chandni the members were divided in six groups and the games were played on points basis.
The coordinator Mr Clevy Leo Rodrigues welcomed the members and explained the rules and requested to cooperate.
The committee members Lancy D Souza, Lydia Lobo, Valerian Dalmaida, Sharan D Souza, Hilda D Souza and Anil Carvalho together Fr Rodson, the spiritual director and Mr Leo Rodrigues planned and worked for the success of the picnic.
Breakfast, lunch and evening tea was provided and everything required for the picnic was meticulously planned. Lunch had the delicacy of Dukra Mas with Undo prepared by Mrs Laveena Rodrigues.
The picnic ended with great memories with the participants only looking forward to the family picnic next year. Valerian Dalmaida presented vote of thanks.
About St. Joseph’s Konkani Community:
St. Joseph’s Konkani Community was formed on the 3rd week of November 2016 to bring together Konkani speaking people under the St. Joseph’s Church campus with one objective – One Konkani Community with one voice.
The election for the committee was held under the supervision of the Parish Priest and Spiritual Director Fr. Rodson Goes and the following were elected by the community through a secret ballot.
Thus the following committee was constituted with the designated portfolios, which is as follows:
