Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid announces 7-day holiday for Eid Al Fitr

Abu Dhabi: Government workers will be given a seven-day holiday starting next Sunday to mark Eid Al Fitr.
At a meeting of the UAE Cabinet, chaired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, it was confirmed that state businesses will be closed from July 3, with work resuming on Sunday, July 10.

Previously, a leading astronomer, Dr Ibrahim Al Jarwan, assistant director of Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences, had predicted that the final day of Ramadan would be on Tuesday, July 5, and Wednesday, July 6, would be the first day of Eid Al Fitr.

The meeting at the Presidential Palace was also attended by Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.

The Cabinet also agreed on an adjustment to holidays for public and private schools regulated by the Ministry of Education, making June 30 the final day of the academic year, the state news agency Wam reported.

It was also agreed that Emiratis who had completed military service would be given priority in recruitment to and promotions within government jobs.

Finally, the Cabinet approved unification of medical licensing for doctors and health professionals at the national level.

The Eid Al Fitr holiday for private sector employees has yet to be announced.
