Oman: A huge crowd sporting colorful jerseys added glitz to the resplendent event of the Oman Tuluver Family Sports Meet.
The pleasant weather conditions a perfect environment for the grand opening of the maiden meet held under the aegis of Oman Tuluver. The mega event being held at Sidab Ahli sports complex was inaugurated in a traditional manner with the lighting of the lamp by K.K.Poonacha, coach of Oman national hockey team.
K.K.Poonacha has had a successful hockey career, both as a player and as coach and has also won several international and national awards. He has also served as a junior commissioned officer in the Indian Army. He along with other noted sports, business and community leaders of Tulunadu was appreciative of the Oman Tuluver for organising such a splendid sports event and encouraged people to prove their physical fitness and enhance sportsmen spirit.
Samir Parkar and Mujahid Kotawadekar, both ICC qualified and Oman League cricket umpires, G V Ramakrishna, Diwakar Shetty of Multitech Contrg, Riyaz Ahmed of SAH Properties, Ganesh Shetty of STS, Manjunath Nayak of STS, Srinivas Shriyan, Dileep Correa, Umesh Bantwal, Guru Prasad Amin and Kuttappa were among the several other dignitaries who graced the occasion.
The national anthems of both the countries, Oman and India were played following the inauguration and before the oath-taking ceremony by captains and players to stay true to the spirit of the game.
Oman Tuluver family sports meet began with cricket and volleyball and was followed with back to back fun-filled sporting events being held on Fridays for both men and women in all age groups.
The response to the unique family sports meet was very good with many teams around the Sultanate of Oman participating in Sidab Ahli sports complex during the event. Out of the 29 cricket teams that participated 14 teams – Pokri Tulu Warriors, Enjoy Friends Muscat, Mangalore Balaga, Tulu Warriors, Coastal Cricketers, Tulu Tudar, Karavali Tigers Muscat, Mangaloreans, Kayyara Kinyanha Rai, Royal Strikers, Prestige Strikers, Tulu Express, Karavali Friends, Mangalore Balaga Sohar – have qualified for the second round to be held on January 27.
Four volleyball teams – Pokri Tulu Warriors, Tulu Express, United Mangalore Friends, Royal Strikers – out of the 22 that participated have qualified for the semi finals.
Ramananda Shetty of Oman Tuluver proposed vote of thanks and requested all sports lovers and supporters to extend their support and co-operation for next level of sports meet in the coming weekends.
