Focus on Asian businesspersons to unite the continent through leadership

Malaysia: The two day Economic Times Asian Business Leaders Conclave inaugurated here on December 14 had a fruitful day. After the grand inauguration by the Honorable Prime Minister Najib Razak and a special address by his counterpart, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who spoke via video conferencing, the unveiling of the Coffee Table Book “Most Influential Leaders in Asia 2016” followed.

An interactive panel discussion on the topic “The sense of belonging and why Asia must come together” was conducted. The panel consisted Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, Founder & Advisor, Berjaya Corporation, Malaysia; K. Guru Gowrappan, Global Managing Director, Ali Baba Group; Anson Chan, Chairman & CEO, Bonds Group of Companies and Lim Kok Thay, Chairman & Chief Executive, Genting Berhad moderated by Dato’ Johan Idris, CEO, KPMG Malaysia.

The day 2 of the Conclave will also have some unique discussion on different topics relating to the co- operation and growth of Asian countries. Special keynote address on “Malaysia as a preferred investment destination in Asia” will be delivered by Y.B. Dato’ Sri Mustapa Bin Mohamed, Minister of International Trade and Industry, Malaysia. Unveiling of the Coffee Table Book “Most Promising Leaders in Asia 2016” and felicitation of profiled Business Leaders will then follow.

A case study from Pemandu’s work in Andhra Pradesh “India on achieving speedy growth through cooperation” will be presented by Ravindran Devagunam, Director, Performance Management & Delivery Unit (PEMANDU). Panel Discussion on the topic, “Challenges in making the Asian companies go global and ways around it” will be moderated by Srikanth Ramachandran, Founder & Executive Director, Moving Walls with Amit Midha, President, APJ Commercial, Dell EMC, Singapore; A Vaidheesh, Managing Director – India and VP – South Asia, Glaxo Smith Kline, India; Ross Macallister, Managing Director, Head of Consulting Services, Vietnam & Cambodia, KPMG and Vijay Karia, Chairman & Managing Director, Ravin Group of Companies, India joining the panel.

An interactive QnA Session on “Responding to the challenges of continual growth” will be held with Saleh Al Turki, Chairman & President, Nesma Holding, Saudi Arabia; Rajiv K. Luthra, Founder and Managing Partner, Luthra & Luthra Law Offices; Karan Adani, CEO, Adani Ports and Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Groups in the panel moderated by Dato Manikandamurthy Velayoudam, Managing Director, Sky Blue Media Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.

Another Interactive Panel Discussion, “Future of Asia: How can it Meet Challenges of Demographic Change and Infrastructure Needs?” will be held with Mahesh Murthy, Founder, Pinstorm & Seedfund; Subhash C Aggarwal, Chairman, SMC Global; Bala Pomaleh, CEO, IPG Medibrands and V. Vaidyanathan, Chairman & Managing Director, Capital First in the panel moderated by Neeraj Bansal, Head of ASEAN and BERC corridor, KPMG.

The next Interactive discussion “ASEAN – Firmly establishing itself as the essential regional organization in Asia” will be held with H.E. Ambassador Ong Keng Yong, Former Secretary-General, ASEAN & Executive Deputy Chairman, S Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS); Ybhg Datuk Dr. Rebecca Fatima Sta.Maria, Senior Policy Fellow, The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) & Former Secretary General, Ministry of International Trade and Industry – Malaysia; Datuk P Ravindran Palaniappan, Senior Director (Retd.), MITI ASEAN Economic Cooperation Division and YBhg. Dato’ Ramesh Kodammal, Chairman, Goldtex Group of Companies & Chiarman, ASEAN Indian Business Council and moderated by YBhg. Dato’ Steven Wong, Deputy Chief Executive, Institute of Strategic & International Studies, Malaysia.

A Industry Specific Parallel Round Table Sessions “ Healthcare & Pharmaceutical – Opportunities and Challenges and the way forward through mutual cooperation in R&D” with Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group and Honorable Datuk Dr. Jeyaindran Tan Sri Sinnadurai, Health Deputy Director General, Malaysian Ministry of Health and “Infrastructure – The backbone for inclusive growth and opportunities for Inter-Asian collaboration” with Vijay Karia, Chairman & Managing Director, Ravin Group of Companies, India will be held followed by the concluding remarks to draw curtains for the conclave.
