Gulbarga : The controversial Shaadi Bhagya scheme which the state government announced for the benefit of Muslim women will now be extended to families belonging to all other religious minorities.
Informing this Minister for Minorities Welfare Qamar-ul-Islam said the CM has agreed to extend the scheme to all religious minorities including Christians, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and Parsis apart from Muslims.
As per the pre-conditions to avail benefits, the bride should have crossed 18 years of age and the groom 21 and the annual income of the beneficiary woman should not exceed Rs 1.5 lakh. As of now Rs 5 crore has been allotted for the scheme, he informed. Even the maximum limit of 1000 beneficiaries per year has been extended, he said.
He accused the former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa of politicizing the issue in the wake of the ensuing elections to the Lok Sabha.
