Cracker lorry catches fire at Shringeri ; 1 dead, another critical

Chikmagalur : One person of Tamil Nadu origin was charred to death while another sustained critical burn injuries when the lorry loaded with crackers was up in flames at Shringeri.

The deceased has been identified as 20 year old Manikanta. The  lorry  from Tamil Nadu was transporting crackers to the Shringeri Mutt. The mishap took place when it was parked  at the Bharathi Beedhi in front of the Mutt. The cause of the fire is not known.

The mishap occurring at a time when Kumbhabhisheka of Torana Ganapathi Temple and  Rajagopura  are underway at the Shringeri Mutt  has caused a lot of anxiety among devotees.
