Yalandoor :  Acting on a tip off, the local police conducted a midnight raid and averted the illegal transportation of  huge quantity of rice meant for distribution under Anna Bhagya Sceheme of the State Government. The truck driver Rafique has been arrested.

As many as 199 rice bags each weighing 50 kg were seized. Locals who saw some people trying to  transport the illegally stocked rice at around 11.30 pm in the  shed of a shop owned by Sayyed Mujahid at Balepete BR Hills Road, informed the Deputy Tahsildar and locals. It is learnt, the rice was to be transported to Kerala. Though many  were present while the police raided the spot, they managed to escape  while only the truck driver could be arrested.

The police have been directed to hand over the seized rice to the Food and Civil Supplies Department. The misuse of rice supplied under an ambitious scheme of the government, that too in the Chief Minister’s home district, has surprised many.
